Black PR against a company: first actions and common mistakes

When negative material appears across several platforms at once, the first response shapes the crisis. This is a safe sequence that avoids retaliatory fakes and unnecessary escalation.

1. Preserve the baseline

Record URLs, timestamps, authors, screenshots, page copies and spread dynamics. A single image is not enough: page context and repost chains matter.

2. Separate a legitimate complaint from an attack

Test the facts. A genuine problem calls for correction and an honest answer. Coordinated disinformation calls for evidence, legal review and platform-specific action.

3. Do not respond before agreeing the position

Fragmented emotional comments create new quotations and intensify the crisis. Establish one decision centre, approved messages and an authorised spokesperson.

4. Build the recovery framework

Communications, legal assessment, platform engagement, search reputation, customer support and monitoring must work together. Removing one item rarely resolves a systemic issue.

Important: specific action depends on the facts, jurisdiction, platforms and crisis stage. Preserve evidence and avoid an emotional public response before the initial assessment.
